Restrictive access to Business Data for a User, even with System Administrator role


While going through threads on Community Forum, there was one interesting reply from Adam Vero about Access Type for Users in CRM which I was not aware of. I used to use to field every time while creating and configuring the users but never tried to understand what it does and what it means. Basically I missed the most important questions How, What, Why.

For each users you can configure Access Mode which states what a user’s can see irrespective of security role. The three possible values are:

  1. Administrative – Get access to only to Administrative functions and no access to business data.
  2. Read/Write – Allow user to work with business data like Account, Contact, etc. along with administrative functions.
  3. Read – Allow user with only read access to business data.

This allows separation of responsibilities, for example IT admin to manage users without access to personal or commercially sensitive information.
